By law, paid tax preparers must sign both federal and state tax returns and include their IRS Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) on all federal returns prepared for a fee. If your preparer did not sign your tax return by name (either typed or handwritten), marked it as “self-prepared,” or used only a business label instead of their name, please complete the complaint form. All information you provide, including your name and contact details, is kept confidential in accordance with privacy laws. Reports are sent directly to the California Franchise Tax Board Tax Preparer Enforcement Team.
